The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of emotional regulation difficulties and meaning of life in the relationship between stress and successful aging among the Korean elderly. Based on the review of the literature, a research model including the partial mediation of emotional regulation difficulties and the moderation of meaning of life in the relationship between stress and successful aging was established, with two other competing models of the partial and the complete mediation of emotional regulation difficulties and meaning of life. A total of 364 elderly over the age of 65 in D city completed the Stress Scale, Emotional Regulation Difficulties Scale, Meaning of Life Scale, Successful Aging Scale. Data were analyzed with structural equation modeling. It was found that emotional regulation difficulties and meaning of life partially mediated the effect of stress on the level of successful aging among the elderly. The moderating effect of meaning of life was not found. Based on the findings, implications for counseling interventions were discussed. Limitations of the current study and the suggestions for further research were also discussed.
